Responsibilities
- Deliver high-level simultaneous and consecutive interpreting tasks across a range of settings, including institutional meetings, technical training, executive discussions, business negotiations, and international conferences.
- Collaborate with project managers, fellow interpreters, and clients to support real-time multilingual communications across languages, ensuring clarity, precision, and consistency.
- Accurately interpret and convey specialized technical terms and content, including legal, regulatory, automotive, and corporate materials.
- Quickly learn relevant subject-matter knowledge and industry terminology within a short timeframe and manage glossaries.
- Demonstrate cultural and contextual awareness, conveying intent, tone, and nuance while respecting professional communication standards.
- Adhere to professional ethics and confidentiality obligations, particularly for Japanese institutional and legal interpreting contexts.
- Perform effectively on both remote interpreting platforms and on-site.
Qualifications
Basic requirements:
- Native Japanese speakers, with professional proficiency in English or other languages.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Proven experience in simultaneous and consecutive interpreting for conferences, institutions, legal proceedings, or corporate meetings.
- Strong listening, comprehension, note-taking, and memory skills, with the ability to convey meaning accurately under pressure.
- Familiarity with remote interpreting platforms and basic interpreting technology and equipment.
- Strong cultural awareness and cross-cultural communication skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- Formal interpreting certifications (e.g., Japanese or national interpreting diploma, AIIC membership, or equivalent).
- Specialized training in simultaneous and consecutive interpreting between English and your native Japanese language is highly preferred.
- Experience with specialized domains such as legal, medical, technical, or financial.
- Up-to-date knowledge in terminology management, glossary creation, or bilingual databases.
